A simple meter to keep track of your network usage

Not knowing your network usage is very problematic. This is especially problematic when you’re not the only one using the network. Sometimes you’ll notice that your Internet is slowing down or just disappears completely. When this happens, it’s usually because someone is using up a lot of Internet resources. With this in mind, keeping track of your Internet usage is incredibly important. BitMeter developed by Codebox is a tool that can provide this service. Using BitMeter, you’ll always be aware of the how much network resource you’re using.

Unobtrusive and Customizable

Since it’s such a small program, the installation process for it was very quick and uncomplicated. It also doesn’t have an interface. Instead, BitMeter appears as a small graph displaying your Internet usage floating across your screen. The download, upload, and overlap usage are represented by bars of different colors. Below the graph is where the actual numbers for download and upload usage are displayed. That’s pretty much it for the interface.

The settings can be accessed from the System Tray. When you right-click on the icon, not only will you be able to access the settings, you’ll also be able to access several additional features that BitMeter comes with. In terms of settings, you can choose how the graph behaves across your screen. By default, the graph can be positioned by dragging it around with your mouse. Obviously, this can pose a bit of a problem since you won’t be able to click on what’s underneath the program. Fortunately, there is an option to be able to click through the program. This allows you to work with your entire screen while also being able to watch your data usage. You’ll also be able to edit the colors that are displayed in your graph.

Additional Features

As mentioned above, the BitMeter actually has a lot of additional features that further help users keep track of their data usage. For example, there is a calculator which allows users to calculate how much data can be used in a given time. Just input the size or the minutes and the calculator will compute how much data you can use. There is also a Statistics feature where users can view the amount of data they’ve consumed in a given timeframe. You’ll be able to view your data usage for the past few hours, days, or months. Another feature is the Statistics Grid where users can view the amount of data they’ve consumed but in more detail. You can also set alerts whenever you get a new speed or volume.

Powerful and Simple

BitMeter is a powerful program, but despite all of the features that it possesses, it’s unobtrusive and simple. It doesn’t take up a lot of storage and memory. In most cases, you won’t even notice that it’s working at all. With BitMeter, keeping track of your data usage just got simpler. With this program, you’ll be able to keep track of your network data with ease and efficiency.

Bitmeter is a bandwidth meter, it allows you to visually monitor your internet connection by displaying a scrolling graph that shows your upload and download speed over time.

If you spend a lot of time online, especially on file sharing networks such as BitTorrent, Kazaa and eDonkey, then a bandwidth monitor is almost indispensable - giving you real-time updates on how effectively your connection is being used, and alerting you to any problems immediately.
